Nancy has retired from daily training of outside horses. She has many of our own colts that she works on and has not the time for outside horses.

Bucky is still taking on a few outside horses to train full time.  Space is limited and the work done is usually geared towards show quality gaiting.

Both Nancy and Bucky feel the need to train people rather than the horse. "If you train the person, they can train the horse"says Bucky.

Charges for training are $ 700.00 per month for board and training, plus expenses such as farrier and veterinarian needs if any.

We offer two ways for you to breed your mare to Flame. One option is to come with your mare to Walking The Dog Ranch. We offer superb accommodations for your mare and guest house for clients.  While here, you can take lessons with Bucky and Nancy and enjoy the beautiful San Jaun Mountains and Mesa Verde Country. Second, we offer shipped semen and can collect almost any day to coincide with your mare's cycle. Contact us for information and fees.

Our clinic may be different from other clinics you  have attended in the past.

We limit the number of horse/rider combinations to 8. We also have a period of time when all participants come together to meet and to work on a few of the tools that will be used in the individual ride time that follows the group session. When we break into individual ride times, each participant has one- on- one time with Bucky.

Each horse/rider will work at the level that they need, from beginner to advanced horsemanship.

The work consists of a variety of tools taken from classical training, reining, and natural horsemanship to either create gait, or to enhance the correct gait that the horse is doing. Contact us about attending a clinic.

OUR BARN OR YOURS?

Ours: We  love to host  clinics at our barn. We can accomodate up to eight horse and rider pairs and any number of auditors. The price of a weekend clinic depends upon how many horse and rider pairs participate. Please contact us for pricing.

We have both indoor and outdoor stalls. Our indoor riding arena allows riding in inclement weather and is well lighted should you care to ride in the evening.  The ranch has two water/electric hookups for living quarters and a guest house with two double beds for a nominal fee. Cortez, Colorado is ten miles away and has numerous restaurants and hotels.

While here, why not stay a few extra days and take in the sights? We are close to Telluride, the Durango, Silverton Narrow Gauge railroad, Mesa Verde National Park, Canyonlands, Arches and only a four hour drive to the Grand Canyon.

The Four Corners is rich in archeological sights and there are trail rides nearby where ruins are visible from the trail. In the summer, high altitude rides provide beautiful scenery, trout fishing and abundant wild flowers.

Yours: I love to visit new barns. If you would like to host a clinic the procedure is simple. We limit the number of horse/rider pairs to eight with an unlimited number of auditors.  A covered or indoor arena insures that the clinic will not be weathered out.
