Around the Ranch - Minnesota in June

I just got back from a clinic in Duluth. It is so green and beautiful there this time of year.

Being next to Lake Superior does pose some interesting problems though. If the wind is coming from the west , or the southwest it can be nice or hot and muggy. If the wind changes and comes from the east, off of the lake, it can get so cold , so fast, that you are diving for your longjohns. It was both this week at the clinic. Hot then Cold. You never know. The weather may have been off and on , but the riders at the clinic were hot. They worked real hard with their horses and what great work they did. We saw every horse change and become better at their gaits and their dispositions. It was fun to work with this group of people. Nancy and I have been going to Duluth for seven years now. The training from the students is better and I think we are seeing better Walking Horses being bred and coming to our clinics.

On a more somber note, we lost one of our best friends this week, while I was gone. My backhoe man, Kenneth Randolph, passed away. He not only worked for us for thirty years doing our excavation jobs, but he introduced us to the Tennessee Walking Horse. We mentioned him on the Rick Lamb Horse Show. We owe him and will miss him alot.

This was my second year at Bucky's clinic. I was excited to be able to show Bucky that I had practiced what I had learned last year and I am looking forward to next years clinic.

What a great clinic it was! Thank you, Bucky, for once again showing my mare and I what is possible. We have been practicing shoulders fore, haunches in, and moving those body parts. (trying real hard to not rely on that inside reign) Her left side is definitely less responsive than her right. I still need to pick up those spurs, though repetition is working for now. Oh, I also just got "Lessons in Lightness" in the mail today. We're going on vacation for a couple of weeks, and it will be a great time for me to dive into it. Though, not having a horse with will be a bit like torture...

Again, thanks so much for everything! The BLESS clinic is invaluable...thank you so much for bringing it all the way up here to Northern Minnesota!

Thank you for the great help and support while you were in Proctor. It was great to see you again and I really appreciate the help with Dancer. Who would have guessed? :P :P Sorry that you got more bad news once you got home. Hope things get better for you both soon. God Bless.

"Bucky's down to earth style helps learners relax and get into a learning frame of mind. His instruction educates and empowers at the same time. He makes you believe that you CAN, and so can your horse without discomfort or fear."
