Around the Ranch - Canyonlands Country
It's springtime in the Rockies. The mud is drying out and the grass is starting to green up.This is the time of year we like to ride in the low canyon country where it's warm and dry.
Yesterday we rode two of the colts. Patron and House were the victims. They have had some trail experience, but this was their first trip out this year. They tried to use too much energy their first couple of miles and it was a job to get them to relax. They figured it out and were great for the remainder of the ride. We stopped alot and let them drink and relax . For colts , it's important to keep them relaxed and enjoying the work they are doing.
We saw many rock formations and Indian ruins. It was warm enough for a small rattlesnake to come out into the river bed to sun himself. He let us know that he wasn't pleased to see us and would have to let us by. He coiled and rattled at us . The colts were impressed. They cut him a wide swath. We had a great ride plus we got to work the colts.
