Around the Ranch - Canyon of the Ancients

Sunday we took a ride into the National Monument called Canyon of the Ancients. It was a warm, sunny day and the cactus was starting to bloom.  The Monument is loaded with Archeological ruins, including one of my favorites.

It is a cliff house dwelling that has a couple of walls that are still plastered and painted with a pale yellow coat of clay. It has white dots painted around the edges of the walls all in lines. the ruin is  appropriately called " The Painted Ruin".  Lorrie Todd was here from her house in Divide , Colorado. She has been working on our new website and has done a great job.  Her company is PageCafe Internet Consulting.  She rode her trusty gelding, Ranger, who I have been riding for a month, doing some finesse training.  He was awesome, going thru rocks, pinion and juniper forests. He even jumped off of a small dry waterfall that we had to negotiate.

Nancy rode her favorite mare, Rio.  She is a great horse, who loves to be out on a trail.  She is so good that you could take a nap on her and wake up at your destination.

I rode our coming four year old, Patron. He was a blast.  Sure footed, keeping his head down, always watching where he was putting his feet.  By the way, Patron is for sale.  View his information by clicking here.

This outing may be our last in the low country for the season. It will soon be time to ride in the high country.
